About

Rachel Whalen is a writer and translator. Her poetry collection, Seeking to Convince the Hostess that I Am What I Say that I Am, was a semi-finalist for the 2021 Brittingham and Felix Pollack Prize in Poetry. She was also a 2018 Rhodes Scholar finalist, a finalist for the Heermans-McCalmon Playwriting Award, and earned an Honorable Mention for the M.H. Abrams Undergraduate Thesis Prize from Cornell University. She obtained her MFA from NYU in 2021 and her BA from Cornell in 2019, where she majored in English and graduated summa cum laude. She speaks English, Spanish, Italian, and a little bit of Russian. Rachel lives in Mexico City with her cat, Fidel.
